This is the space I've used since 1988 as a studio. It was my daughter's room before she left home......and before that, the garage.
This is the entrance from the family room....looks like I still need to find a place for large canvases. Looking left as you walk in the door...pardon the mess, I'm packing to go to an artist retreat. The furnishings for the studio have been other things in other lives and I've adapted them for my needs.
This is my painting/work table.....4 x 8 ft. It's placed on top of an old decorator's cabinet with large deep drawers. The old English wardrobe I found holds so many art supplies and my stereo equipment........it's also very large ..7 ft. by 7 ft. The new storage area to the right is heaven sent. I'd run out of space in the closet for new canvas, paintings and especially a space to lay large papers flat.......it already looks full but it's 48 inches deep and 64 inches wide. As you can see, you still can't get a 72" painting (propped up on the left) in the shelves without bumping your head as you go by. I think my husband deserved a good dinner for all the work he did on building this storage.
This is the closet (left). It's very large (about 6 by 15 ft.) and the first storage my husband built for me to store paintings.....(right) this side of the closet has a old desk with a mat cutter, small canvases and other assorted studio supplies/junk. This is the wall on the back of the studio as you enter. I have an 10 ft. wall easel made of pegboard here. I hardly ever use an easel now since many paintings are too large for one. Right now I have an assortment of paintings waiting to be packed for a couple of shows....when I come home from Mississippi Art Colony. The area on the right shows more of the painting table and an old drawing table that is used to hold more painting supplies. There are even saws and drills on the shelves above.
We just passed the three windows and are back at the wardrobe and storage area. The picture on the right shows the bookcase built in as you leave the studio. I hope you enjoyed seeing where I work.........and didn't look too close at the dust balls gathering. At least my computer is in another room......that's where I work on my web page, etc., and take care of the business side of my art. CDMC |
